YOUTH Handgun 101 – Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
Focusing on handgun safety and marksmanship, the fundamental base to all effective shooting techniques, this 3 hour course is specifically tailored for kids ages 8-10. Children ages 11 and up are welcome to join adults in Handgun 101.We’ll cover:

• 4 Rules of firearms safety
• Safe gun handling skills
• Handgun operation
• Basic marksmanship
• Approximately one hour of fun live-fire drills on the range

Included is use of .22LR pistol, 25 rounds of ammunition, target and all appropriate safety equipment. Please bring your own gear if preferred and some note-taking material.

Ladies Only Handgun 101
Focusing on handgun safety and marksmanship, the fundamental base to all effective shooting techniques, this 5 hour course meets the requirements of Iowa Code 724.9 for application for an Iowa Permit to Carry.

We’ll cover:

• Firearms safety
• Types of handguns
• Handgun operation
• Basic marksmanship
• Cleaning and safe storage
• Approximately one hour of live-fire drills on the range.
• Non-shooting options are also available with our Simulation Skill Building system.

Required equipment (bring your own or you may rent them from CrossRoads*):

• Handgun* with minimum 2 magazines, and 25 rounds of ammunition (if you are bringing your own firearm but are unfamiliar with it, we highly reccommend taking the New Gun Owner Seminar first)
• Eye and ear protection – highly recommend electronic hearing protection
• Note taking material

*Our rental guns for class are .22 caliber semi-auto pistols. We believe starting new shooters on this caliber sets them up for success when shooting for the first time.

Completely new to firearms? Need a to take a class to get your Iowa Permit to Carry? Then this class is for you! Minors ages 11 and up are welcome to take this course as an introduction to firearms. This course meets the requirements of Iowa Code 724.9 for application for an Iowa Permit to Carry for adults 21 and older.

We’ll cover:

• Firearms safety
• Types of handguns
• Handgun operation
• Basic marksmanship
• Cleaning and safe storage
• Approximately one hour of live-fire drills on the range.

Handgun 102 – Defensive Fundamentals | Prerequisite: Completion of Handgun 101 or equivalent to a NRA basic pistol course.

Already comfortable bringing your firearm to the range and ready to build your skills and mindset for concealed carry? Then this class should be on your calendar.

• The importance of a Defensive Mindset
• Basic self-defense principles
• Active awareness
• Holster selection
• Defensive pistol work

Required Equipment:

• Handgun (minimum of .380 caliber) and at least two magazines, three are preferred
• Three or more speed loaders if bringing revolver
• Sturdy belt and rigid, belt-mounted holster (rigid means the mouth of the holster does not collapse when the gun is drawn)
• A belt-mounted magazine pouch
• 100 rounds of ammunition
• Eye and ear protection – highly recommend electronic hearing protection
• Note taking material

Dress:

• Closed toe and closed heel shoes (no sandals, flip flops or heels)

Handgun 201 -Defensive Pistol Step One | Prerequisite: Completion of Handgun 102 or equivalent course.

Ready to Move beyond the shooting stall and build YOUR confidence presenting the firearm from the holster, making accurate and repeatable hits, moving with a firearm in hand, choosing a holster for daily carry and living with a firearm day-after-day?

Train with nationally recognized firearms trainer and active conceal carry Melody Lauer in this intermediate defensive handgun class covering the fundamentals of what is necessary to know with carrying a firearm for personal defense on a daily basis.

We’ll cover:

• Working from the holster
• Strong and support hand shooting with transistions
• Malfunction clearing
• Effective use of cover and concealment
• Movement and advantageous positioning in a defensive encounter
• Extreme accuracy and distance shooting

Required Equipment:

• Well functioning handgun (minimum of .380 caliber) with at least two magazines, three are preferred
• Three or more speed loaders if bringing revolver
• Sturdy belt and rigid, belt-mounted holster (ridges means the mouth of the holster does not collapse when the gun is drawn)

Handgun 202 – Defensive Pistol Step Two | Prerequisite: Completion of Defensive Pistol Step One or equivalent course.

The last class in our core set of classes includes work from the holster, strong hand and support hand shooting skills and transitions between hands. We will discuss the contexts in which transitions are necessary in defensive shooting such as traumatic injuries and priorities regarding self-care if wounded.

Train with nationally recognized firearms trainer and active conceal carry mom Melody Lauer in this intermediate defensive handgun class covering the fundamentals of what is necessary to know as a female with carrying a firearm for personal defense on a daily basis.

We’ll cover:

• Working from the holster
• Strong and support hand shooting with transistions

Immediate Casualty Care

If you want to have a plan for traumatic injuries due to accident or evil, this is the class you need to take. 

After attending this course, the student will be able to: 

• Define relevant physiological functions of the human body
• Establish principle treatment standards for a patient assessment (MARCH)
• Identify early and ongoing symptoms of hypovolemic shock
• Outline pertinent interventions for treatment of traumatic injuries.

Iowa Law and Self Defense

Permit to Carry classes give you the very basic information that you need to know to get your permit.  Iowa Law and Self-Defense gives you the information you need to know to be a responsible and well-prepared gun owner and carrier.

You train with your gun to defend your life.  Now you need to learn how to defend your freedom.

What does Iowa’s new “Stand Your Ground” law really mean?  Maybe you have your permit to carry a gun, but do you know when you are legally justified in using it?  If you ever had to use your firearm in self-defense, do you know how to handle yourself in the legal aftermath of that event?  How do your responsibilities and legal standing change when you are home, versus when you are carrying in public?

Whether you are a beginner, or experienced, this class has something for you. It will introduce you to the reality of a use of force encounter in a comfortable environment. Why chance your ability to rise to the occasion when you can test and advance your skills in a safe training environment?

This 3 hour seminar is truly the ‘next step’ for those who have completed a defensive handgun shooting class or those considering a handgun for self-defense. While this seminar is primarily designed around using a firearm, it is meant to establish a strong foundation upon which any tool for self-defense can be inserted. The course will help you develop a holistic understanding of defensive stance and our four-part system for responding to and prevailing through a self-defense encounter, whether you utilize a weapon or not.

Personal Protection Inside the Home

This 1 day course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course.

We’ll cover:

• Basic defensive shooting skills
• strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation
• firearms and the law
• how to choose a handgun for self-defense
• continued opportunities for skill development

Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Minnesota Non-Resident Permit to Carry

This course designed for individuals who are proficient with shooting skills and the defensive mindset who frequent Minnesota and wish to carry a weapon of legal choice in that state.

Prerequisites to attend this certification program:

1. Possession of VALID IOWA Permit to Carry
2. Ability to complete a multi-stage timed course of fire with defensive accuracy with malfunctions installed.

IF you DO NOT currently possess an Iowa permit, please consider our Handgun 101/Carry Basics course.

Course content of basic training must include the following as dictated by MN statute 624.714 subd 2a:

(1) instruction in the fundamentals of pistol use;

(2) successful completion of an actual shooting qualification exercise;

(3) instruction in the fundamental legal aspects of pistol possession, carry, and use, including self-defense and the restrictions on the use of deadly force.

Intro to AR Rifles and Carbines Part 1 – Classroom

We’ll cover:

• Immediate Actions

There will be a brief discussion of zeroing, this will be based on the .223Rem & 5.56mm version of the AR platform.

If you are looking for information on zeroing 7.62×39 or .300Blk please make that comment when registering for the class. The overall content for the course will be applicable for multiple calibers, however zeroing gets very specific to caliber and a few other variables.

Students who register for the AR clinic will have the option of registering for a 2-hour range session to be held at a later date.
