AIRGUN OUTREACH w/ Adaptive Sports Iowa
Adaptive Sports Iowa is proud to host the National Veteran Airgun Outreach program. This program was developed by Adaptive Sports USA and funded through a grant from the Veteran’s Administration.
This program take place every Tuesday evening at CrossRoads Shooting Sports in Johnston, IA from 6-8 pm
The Adaptive Sports USA National Veteran Airgun Outreach Series will run through July 5, 2016. Adaptive Sports USA will plan, develop, manage and implement a national shooting program (air pistol / air rifle) to provide shooting opportunities for disabled Veterans and disabled members of the Armed Forces.
The program will complement work being done by USA Shooting and serve individuals with a recreational and/or competitive focus. The program will serve various types of disabilities to include amputation, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, PTSD as well as special adaptations for blind and visually impaired. Working alongside program partners in 7 identified geographic locations; Veterans will have the opportunity to gain instruction, participation and competition in an adaptive sport. They will also have an option to practice from home if residing in a rural area.
The primary outcomes of the program will include a minimum of 70 unique disabled Veterans and/or disabled members of the Armed Forces becoming engaged in sport and enjoying the inherent benefits of sport participation such as physical fitness, independence and socialization. Additionally, there will be a minimum of 5 sport organizations around the country with the tools and experience to implement ongoing programming as well as legacy equipment for future use.
